The Woman Behind the New York Fashion Week

Remi Landau focuses her work on designing a social nightwear line for a clothing company. Every day, she works on designing new pieces of clothing into samples for upcoming lines. Since Remi Landau became engaged in the fashion industry in 2014, she never failed to attend the New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

Before 1940, Paris used to be the fashion capital of the world. Fashion enthusiasts from around the world took cues from those who had attended the exclusive seasonal fashion shows in Paris. But everything changed when the Nazis occupied France during World War II. Without access to Paris, the fashion world was looking for someone who would fire up the fashion industry.
In 1943, a publicist named Eleanor Lambert organized an event called Press Week in New York. Initially, the Press Week was exclusive for fashion reporters, photographers, and publicists. Customers who want to buy the featured clothing lines had to set a different appointment with the designers.
Through the Press Week, many American designers who had labored behind the more popular designers in Paris were suddenly given the opportunity to showcase their designs. Lambert’s Press Week and the breakfast meetings with the press and fashion photographers would become the model of what is known today as New York Fashion Week.
